When using diatomaceous earth: ① Only use food-grade diatomaceous earth; industrial-grade contains high concentrations of crystalline silica, which is harmful to the lungs.
② Wear an N95 mask when applying the powder — to avoid inhaling the dust, which irritates the respiratory tract.
③ Apply along the edges of baseboards, under cabinets, and around bed legs — a layer so thin it's barely visible is sufficient.
④ Effectiveness is best under dry conditions — if it gets damp, it will clump and lose effectiveness, requiring vacuum removal and reapplication.
⑤ Keep away from areas where children and pets are active — although low in toxicity, ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation.
⑥ Diatomaceous earth is effective against crawling pests but cannot reach individuals deep inside walls — it should be used as a supplementary tool within an integrated IPM program, not the sole method.
